CARL BARTON, JR. PARK
A great park that is dog friendly. This 201 acre park has a 3/8 mile paved walking trail around the lake which takes you around through the trees, near the sports and play areas. The park requires dog to be leashed at all times.
Paved Trails: There is a paved trail (6/10 mile) that circles around the lake.
Note: Bring your own water and bowl (but you can find water at the restroom water fountains). Also bring your own Mutt Mitt’s. Perhaps we can eventually get some dispensers put out along the trail. Dogs must remain on a 6 ft or less leash here.
This park has several areas where trees were planted and dedicated. Check out the ones for Past Mayors.
Trails: On the south side of the park are the hiking/rough trails. There are many directions to go – so don’t get lost. Watch out for bugs and mosquitos which were heavy in some areas (after a big rain). The good news is you can scoot back out of the woods and get on the paved trail around the lovely pond. (see map photo below for trails).
The Park: There are several restroom facilities with water inside at the sinks – these are the only areas we found water. Plenty of parking throughout. Bring your bike – if you have trained your dog to run along side on a leash. Enjoy a picnic with the family and pooch. There is fishing in the pond and lots of picnic areas for family fun.
There are lots of sports events (soccer and baseball) going on in this park – so go enjoy a game with your dog.
